Doble storey home design trends 2015: The laundry

Posted February 18, 2015

For the fifth part of our home design trends series, we want to focus on a sometimes neglected part of the home, the laundry. This is a space which is generally considered to be purely functional rather than beautiful. As a luxury double-storey home builder in Perth we beg to differ!, We believe that every single space in the home should of course be functional, but should also look absolutely stunning and be a pleasure to be in! So to help you design your perfect laundry, we have researched some laundry design trends going into 2015.

Light It Up

Lighting is important to create a room which is bright, clean and airy. An illuminated space feels more open and is much nicer to work in. Consider installing something glamorous like a chandelier which will beautifully distribute crystals of light throughout the space! For something more modern, consider a few downlights which look inconspicuous, clean and provide good light. Lighting is also a great way to illuminate specific work zones in your laundry. Think about installing lights at the base of your hanging cupboards or your dryer to illuminate the space beneath them.

Splashes of Colour

Beautiful, coloured splashbacks can create a bright feature in an otherwise simple space. Consider installing a coloured glass splashback which creates a solid, glossy panel of colour behind your laundry sink and work bench. If you like something a little more traditional, consider installing a panel of small, mosaic tiles complemented by a wooden bench top.

Hanging Spaces

Hanging cupboard storage looks beautiful and creates much-needed storage space in your laundry. Beautiful, straight and clean cabinetry creates a modern and elegant space. Complement your cabinetry with a glossy and sleek work surface, and gorgeous stainless steel fixtures and sink.

Paint it Blue

Beautiful bright blues and greens are really on trend at the moment and will carry through to 2015. Set of these gorgeous tones with crisp, white cabinetry and pendant lights for a bright and vibrant space. As we’ve discussed before, make sure that the materials and colour scheme that you choose for your laundry continue your home design story!
