Novus Homes is a Western Australian success story and is one of the most respected and highly awarded builders in the Perth market.

When it comes to building a luxury home, most people want to create something that’s on trend but with timeless appeal.

At Novus Homes, we believe in creating a home that will suit your present, and your future. We take you through which current luxury housing design trends are popular at the moment, but will also stand the test of time.

What luxury home trends are people spending money on?

People are spending more time at home than ever before. With adult children remaining at home long past their teenage years, and people increasingly choose to entertain at home, homeowners are prepared to really invest in their home, and make it almost as luxurious as hotel living.

Multi-functional spaces

Multi-functional spaces are both stylish and practical. Home offices that can be converted into guest bedrooms, or theatre rooms that can be converted to playrooms, are extremely popular.

Creating a space that can be used for multiple purposes is a great way to allow your home to grow with you. It’s also incredibly easy to do.

High-end sofa beds can transform an office into a guest room, while smart storage options means children’s playrooms can be easily converted into something more tranquil when you need some adult time.

Indoor/outdoor spaces

Spaces that can be both indoor and outdoor are the ultimate in multi-functional. You can create them through large format doors, which allow spaces to be sectioned off or opened up. A deck that can also function as an outdoor kitchen and entertaining area is an incredibly popular luxury housing trend.

Blended living

The main reason multi-functional spaces are so important is the blended living we do these days. With huge numbers of people now working from home, at least part time, our home is expected to be an office, a sanctuary, a soft play (depending on the age of your children) and a place for entertaining friends.

Flexible, fluid spaces that blend into each other and can be easily repurposed are the best way to approach our new hybrid living.

Home wellness

The next huge trend that’s dominating home design is a focus on wellness. While this may be a current trend, it’s definitely worth getting behind, as one of its core principles is longevity and sustainability.

Sustainability

The first part of the wellness movement for homes is sustainability. Homebuyers are increasingly opting for eco-friendly and ethically sourced materials, including reclaimed wood, bamboo flooring, recycled content materials, and energy-efficient windows and insulation.

This has a dual benefit; it’s good for the planet around us, but it’s also energy efficient, which means your bills are likely to be lower. Properly insulated houses waste significantly less energy, and adding solar panels will reduce your energy bills even further.

Spa bathrooms

From doing the right thing to doing the luxurious thing, luxurious spa bathrooms are definitely dominating house designs at the moment. Free-standing baths, rainforest showers, and ambient lighting all help to create the feeling that you could be in an exclusive boutique hotel, rather than at home.

Saunas and ice baths

Combining luxury and longevity is the new focus on saunas and ice baths at home. As we learn more about the benefits of ice baths and hot and cold therapy, many homebuilders are deciding to put them in at home.

Affordable luxury

Affordable luxury is another factor to bear in mind. Put simply, affordable luxury means deciding which areas of your home to splurge on. If you don’t have a limitless budget, clearly identify the rooms or areas that are worth really investing in, and splash out.

Chef’s kitchens

It’s long been said that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Carving out a little extra space for your kitchen and investing in professional-grade appliances, large central islands and high quality cabinetry and natural stone countertops are all luxury kitchen trends worth setting.

And don’t forget about storage. Sectioning off a separate butler’s pantry adjacent to the kitchen is a great way to create extra workspace and storage for appliances and serving ware so that the main part of your kitchen is free of clutter, which will only serve to make it look more spacious.

Luxury bedrooms

A bedroom can be so much more than just a place to sleep; it’s a sanctuary. Which is why many dream homes feature bedrooms worthy of hotels.

Master suites

Spa-like ensuites, private outside spaces and walk-in wardrobes that you could get lost in are just some of the hallmarks of a luxurious master bedroom.

You might also want to consider layered lighting, textured wallpaper and customised bedroom furniture to top off the look.

Guest suites

And why should you have all the fun? Increasingly, guest bedrooms have ensuites as a standard, as well as all the other mod-cons and luxuries of a master. The only problem? Your guests might never leave.

Novus Homes Luxury Contour Design Bedroom with Difference Textures

Colour and texture

2025 is the year that things have got exciting on the colour and texture front, with splashes of colour and texture being at the forefront of luxury interior design trends.

The return of colour

After decades of grey, colour has made a welcome return to home furnishings, with warm, earthy shades being a hot trend for 2025. If you like a colour, prepare to see a lot of it. Colour drenching, where you use a single colour extensively throughout a room or space, is also extremely popular.

Texture

Texture doesn’t simply mean the textured wallpaper that you remember from the 90s. While that has made a comeback, it also means textured tiles in the bathroom, and a focus on wood panelling, which offers a number of versatile looks.

Zoned living

One of the huge advantages of building your own home is the ability to create different zones within. As family dynamics change, with adult children remaining at home, and older family members potentially returning, creating separate zones is a way of making everyone feel at home.

Dual storey

Dual storey is one of the simplest ways to create separate zones or living spaces. Designing an upstairs parents’ retreat, with a bedroom, bathroom, and separate living space, is an effective way to make sure all family members have breathing space. A kids’ play and study area off a central family living space downstairs in a dual storey also works well.

Granny flats

With reduced legislation around building granny flats making it easier to build, creating a granny flat or pool house is a fantastic way to add an extra dimension to your home. While it can be a separate living space for older parents, other people prefer to use them as games spaces, gyms or even home offices.
