The Perfect Bathtub for Your Bathroom

Posted December 21, 2014

There are many different styles of bathtub, some taking inspiration from medieval times and others from the Scandinavian wilds! A bathtub can form the centrepiece in your bathroom, or simply meld smoothly with your other bathroom furniture and fixtures. As a single storey home designer in Perth with a passion for beautiful and functional bathrooms, we have come up with a few tips to help you choose the right bathtub for your bathroom!

Dimensions
Figure out home much space you want to dedicate to your bathtub and measure it out properly. It’s a good idea to draw up a plan of your bathroom after consulting with your plumber. Taking plumbing requirements into account is very important and will help you to understand the ideal placement of your bathtub. These preparations will give you an idea of the style of bath you should go for in your bathroom, whether it is best to opt for something free-standing, undermounted or alcove style.

Materials
There are many choices of materials for your bathtub, ranging from enamelled cast iron, to sealed wood! A cast iron bathtub is extremely durable, but is very heavy and will need an excellent support structure. An acrylic bathtub is made from a form of plastic, and has a glossy finish, which can look beautiful in a modern bathroom.  A wooden bathtub can make a gorgeous feature in a bathroom, but won’t be as durable as cast iron or enamelled steel. Consider your budget and also how much use your bathtub will get before making any choices.

Style
A clawfoot, cast iron bathtub is absolutely stunning, but won’t complement a bathroom with a modern vanity and tap fixtures! A copper bathtub looks incredible as a centrepiece, but needs to be balanced by complementary design features. Make sure that when you’re considering the style of your bathtub, you consider the rest of your bathroom furniture and fixtures. Your bathtub should fit in with the rest of your bathroom design story!
